Doctor Who

There's, like... a lot of it, isn't there?

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
hahaha, yesterday i listened to an audiobook, today i am looking up more about the 7th doctor on the net. no reason, just curiosity. i am halfway through an eighth doctor novel. it's like ... it never ends.

You're telling me, I've spent the afternoon with Rose and the Doctor and extras and Russell T Davies and episode commentarys and I think I'll be dreaming of Jack and the Doctor in compromising positions tonight.....

Fun though isn't it?

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
900 and something individual episodes, about 400 books, over 100 audio dramas and god knows how many comics... *g*

Well, I just started reading the Virgin New Adventures from um, somewhere in the middle. I am getting quite Sevened-up (ooh, haha!). I was listening to a Seven audio at the same time, which was confusing, in a fun way, because it didn't seem to fit in with any continuity whatsoever. Now I'm wondering if I can do the same trick with Eight books and Eight audio along with the Seven books. Or if my head will just explode.

Also, my Series Two box-set is stranded at the Royal Mail sorting office!

Oooh, Jack/Doctor. There's always something to look forward to, isn't there? Even if only in our minds... :)

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well... I didn't have much on for the rest of my life, anyway. :)

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
heee. rock :) we'll need an intervention soon.

i loved 10th doctor book "the resurrection casket" read by tennant. it had space pirates!

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the spirit!

I worked out today that I've been into Who for about 21 months, old school stuff maybe 18... it's rather scary how much canon you can get through in that time.

[identity profile] 3jane.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
There's so much that we can't even find all of it! (Seriously. During a period of neglect at the BBC, some episodes got lost. There are people who've dedicated their lives to tracking down copies of lost eps, in places like Hong Kong.)

But there's something to be said for a fandom you know won't just cut you off as it's getting to the good part.

*puts on list*

[identity profile] lebannen.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there is!

Do you happen to want another Radio Times audio freebie, if you don't have it already? It's The Stone Rose, read by David Tennant - I can upload or send you the CDs as you prefer.

[identity profile] mari-lwyd.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. Thank god there's a Doctor Who fan of the old school persuasion in my family who buys the DVDs. Mostly the 3rd doctor. Still don't know quite where to start though.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Your stamina is quite breathtaking! :)

I've been doing a fair bit of dipping in at random, but I think I may be heading for scary 'following bits through in a linear fashion' territory. I do want to get to know Eight, he seems like a nice chap.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Eight is lovely. And so much of a slut he makes Ten look relatively unflirtatious, bless him.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, and then people claim to have found them abandoned in somene's rubbish, and everyone goes mad. I like my fandoms insane. :)

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Yes please and thank you - I'd be very happy to download! :)

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, it's tricky, isn't it? And that's even without the books and the audio and the rest of it. I swear by a combination of asking knowledgeable people for recs, and dipping in randomly and wilfully.

ps. I think I have cleverly seen through your sekrit identity. ;)

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, good! :)

*prepares to leap into the fray*

[identity profile] mari-lwyd.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not particularly hard is it? And yes, I did thief the name from your post. And yes, I spelt it wrong. Iset this up because I noticed that when I was added by loads of real life people, my geeky posts stopped because I'm such a closet case. Besides, I'm sick of being so traceable.

[identity profile] purple-hazed.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only get into the last 2, and I liked but was not mad about Torchwood, tho my sis said when Jack hears the Tardis at the end of the series, she screamed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to reading your fic :-)

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it can be tricky juggling fannishness with real-lifeness. But I say, hooray for geekery, in whatever form! :)

You can always say you were being clever with the spelling. Just be mysterious - people are bound to believe you.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked Torchwood, but I thought it had serious problems. I'm looking forward to a second series, but it in no way compares to the way I'm frothing at the mouth for New Who! Hearing the TARDIS always makes me scream a little bit, although usually I manage to keep in inside. :)

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-20 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I really must finish that fic! I'm so, so, so near the end it's silly.

And most of it is Great Fun!

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-21 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! :)

[identity profile] lugna-vatten.livejournal.com 2007-01-21 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Doctors 7 and 8 are massively under-appreciated. The books and audio are tremendous.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2007-01-21 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm just starting to realise that! I just finished reading 'Love and War' by Paul Cornell, because I read his 'Human Nature', seeing as it was free on the BBC site, and I loved Bernice. So I thought I'd go back to her first appearance and carry on from there. Incidentally, I hear rumours that Cornell's two-parter in the next series might be a version of 'Human Nature', which is interesting.

I'm not sure where to start with Eight books and audios, though. Any recs or pointers?

[identity profile] lebannen.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't forgotten you; I've been trying to upload to my webspace, but either the server or the ftp client is being an arse (my money's on the server) and it hasn't worked out. I'll try one of those transfer service thingys, I'm sure I have an account with one of them.
