This was just wonderful.
Dialogue & characterization & portray of sunrise & everything.
Then there was the vodka & the dreams. *le sigh* You certainly know what you're doing, when you write.

Thanks! Glad you liked it.

You certainly know what you're doing, when you write.

You know what? I have no clue! I'm just happy when it turns out all right. :)

Well, you seem to have an idea of what you write.
But I assume you edited it multiple times before you posted it.
I refuse to believe that a great piece of fiction like that just poured out of your fingertips as you typed, without later editing it. ;P

Well, editing is always of the good, but every now and then I get lucky and it all happens quite quickly and smoothly. The rest of the time the process is hair-tearingly tortuous and painful and slow, you'll be glad to hear. :)

Well, that's one of the signs of a good writer. Going through that process to do their best, to make their writing as good as it can be. I can hardly ever bother to read what I've written previously and try to improve it.

So I guess I'll have to pry whether writing this was quick&quite easy or painful and slow?

This was actually one of the quick ones. Most bizarre, it just sort of happened. I wish it would happen more often, that's all I can say.

I can hardly ever bother to read what I've written previously and try to improve it.

I'm a very lazy writer. That's why I like writing short things, because I find anything longer tends to start dragging, I get bored and it ends up languishing half-finished in a folder on my hard drive forever.

I know what you mean. I've never been very confident in my skills in fanfiction writing (mainly because I don't think I could ever seriously write fiction in English, as it isn't my first language), but I could never start a novel-length fic. If I was still writing fanfiction actively, I'd probably write drabbles or ficlets. In original fiction I usually write vignettes or short scenarios.
Some people can just write a story of 100 pages and wonder why I'm struggling with something a little less than 6 pages long (not hand-written, Word-documents).

Most bizarre, it just sort of happened.
When inspiration strikes, it just does. Sometimes there's an idea that carries itself and writing it is very easy.
&After reading some of your fantastic works I also wish you'd get that more often. :]

Sorry, I thought I'd replied to this!

Short fic can sometimes be just what you want, though (not to mention just as difficult as writing longer things). Do you feel you want to write fanfiction? Your English seems extremely good from what I've seen.

Thank you. :) So do i!

Yeah, my English is good, but it's still not my first language, so I can use the language oddly, for example misuse idioms and phrases or use a metaphora that works in Finnish, but not in English etc..
There are a lot of these things foreign writers writing in English can stumble upon.

If I were to write any more fanfiction than I have (I haven't written in ages), I doubt I'd write RPS. It seems difficult to pull it off very well.

A good beta would be helpful in catching that sort of thing. I do know people who were very apprehensive about writing fic in English, but found fandom a good place to improve their skills, because it can act as an excellent support structure.

Yes, it can be. It's different from writing FPS, because the canon is so much looser and more ambiguous. It's difficult to know, for instance, how to get things like characterisation right. But there's a freedom that comes with that, too, which is part of what I like about it.

Yeah, a beta is always handy. I used to write in fandoms that didn't really have betas. I mean, even if you were friends with some authors, they could say they don't really do that sort of thing (beta, that is). I once wrote a story with another author and we had a good beta reader for it, but then she disappeared. We e-mailed her, but she just didn't seem to get on-line at all, we never saw her on AIM or anything.
Sadly, that's my only experience with a beta reader. But before she disappeared, she really helped.

But there's a freedom that comes with that
I know what you mean. When I first discovered slash, it was of my favourite band at the time and me&a fellow fan giggled over it. Then my friend came up with this odd pairing and I wrote a piece and it had ALL the bad slash mistakes. After that I've read that fic over & over, re-written it multiple times & it's kind of my darling.
(I'd give you a link, but my fanfiction site is offline, as the host is switching domains, plus you probably wouldn't know the band..)

When I was re-writing, I thought to myself "Well, I don't know them, so I can take what I do know about them and just take it from there". You can write your own interpretation of what you think&know they are like. I suppose that's what you meant with the freedom. :]

Well, if you ever write something you think I might be able to help with, do feel free to ask. :)
