it's not romance, it's affection. what they clearly have for each other. and maybe there are other undercurrents but it doesn't even matter because they love each other so purely, without need for undercurrents. without all the false starts and stops, all the doubts, of romance.
You're sounding a bit like PJ there, you know... :) But I absolutely agree, yes, and you put it so beautifully, which is why I just quoted it back to you.
Also, may I say how nice it is to see you back and writing again, which I would have said in feedback if I was anything like together at the moment, but anyway. Yes. :)

Well, I was watching this documentary and he was talking about Frodo and Sam, and used very similar sorts of phrases. Only he said there weren't any undercurrents, so you're actually better.

in my experience, and non-experience... even the purest relations have undercurrents. not necessarily romantic ones... but i don't think relationships are ever exactly what they appear to be. humans are far more complex for that. somewhat unfortunately. *laughs*
