Not directly related, and on most exceedingly thin evidence, but I find myself quite disconcerted by the possibility that a friend of my mum's is a popslasher. Worlds colliding, and all that. Just how do you have that conversation, which would be odd enough at the best of times, with someone who's usually more concerned about her daughter's boyfriend or her son's maths coursework? Say 'So, you, uh, like the Libertines, then?' and change the subject if she replies with something complicated about guitars?

I have no idea how you deal with that one, really, but I would be altogether too tempted not to try and winkle it out of her, I feel. Do keep us posted on this issue!
