I hate William Grundy. I think he's a miserable, boring whinger and I don't care whether he poisoned the kite, I hope he gets banged up anyway. I'm sick of hearing his horribly, whiny voice. I can't stand any of the rest of the Grundys either, except Ed. I like Ed. Ed can stay.

Unfriend me if you want, Grundy fans, I don't care. I'll say what I like.

Oh, wait. The Archers isn't really a fandom, is it. Damn. I was hoping to start a flamewar.

LOL.. as someone who lives with an avid Archers fan, I snorted quite loudly at reading this. I have to admit, being a city girl for the majority of my life, I just don't get the Archers. The last one I listened to had some posh bint laying into the 'bit of rough' for apparently killing a bird of prey?.... ???

My other half on the other hand gets all the farming references so if he were in online fandom, I'm sure he would have been willing to join in your flame war.

Give me Eastenders any day... I understand all that. ;)

Unfortunately, having worked for a farming magazine, I understand more of the farming refs than I really want to. I've listened to it for years, I have no idea why! I still haven't quite sorted out who everyone is.

William would be the bit of rough, I assume, he's been accused of poisoning a kite. The posh bint could be pretty much anyone else on The Archers.

But it was probably Lynda Snell, wasn't it? I don't know, I don't listen to the wretched program, no, really, I don't even know who Will is.

[livejournal.com profile] rheanna27 and I were talking about asking for Archers for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide!

REALLY!

Astonishingly, she's not making that up.

HAHAHA! Funnily enough, as I was posting this, I thought, "Why does nobody ever ask for Archers fic at Yuletide?" I shall definitely be backing you both up when Yuletide time rolls around... (assuming you haven't come to your senses by that time, of course).

It's the cheery theme music, isn't it?

When I was writing HP fic, I once worked on a story that had The Archers as a Wizarding Wireless programme licensed out to Muggle radio as a way to make money off the general populations whilst manipulating them through magical means -- a sort of wireless Confundus spell. Whenever the wider world needed some mass rewriting of their memories, The Archers was the way to get it done. Of course, it served the same purpose in Wizardom. No one could ever say why on earth they listened to the sodding programme, it wasn't that they actually found it entertaining, but still it was a compulsion and wherever they were if they once heard the theme begin, they were transfixed to the spot until it was finished. And then the Ministry would get through whatever idiotic thing they'd been having difficulty selling to the public -- one episode of The Archers and poof! no further grumbling from the witch on the street. It explains such a lot about Molly Weasley's characterisation.

That -- is genius. It is so obvious now I know! I have immediately incorporated it into my personal canon.

I am happy in my little radio 4 bubble, it's all cosy and reminds me of my mum.

I started listening to The Archers for the LOLZ (I was going thro a bad period of my life where I was v manic!!).............I am now addicted, I particularly believe in Spearmint the pony, and he's not even an actor, is he?? He's just a load of coconut shells and sound effects!!

PS
The cake was particularly delicious as I made an extra effort.

Radio 4 is just like air to me now.

Spearmint! He is real! (Or is Spearmint a she? See how much attention I pay?)

I'm a bit annoyed I missed the ending of the William/Nic relationship though -- I was looking forward to relishing Will's pain. Harsh, I know, but he is fictional.

All I know about the Archers is that I went on a studio tour once (I think?) when I was a wee'un, and saw where the show was recorded, and became all disenchanted upon seeing the trays of gravel and coconuts.
