How does one go about joining the PC Brigade? Is there an application form? Do you get a uniform?

And what about these PC Vultures I keep hearing about? They sound a bit dangerous. Or are they perhaps some kind of sports team?

You have to be nominated by a current member and then get to go through a long drawn-out initiation process with lots of invasive questions and dare-devil challenges. But it's all worth it because, if you pass and are admitted to the ranks, you get a rather nifty enamel badge and the right to use a complicated handshake.

Entirely coincidentally, just overheard a co-worker utter the following gem:

[talking about the Black & White Minstrel Show]: "I suppose it would be racist these days, wouldn't it?"

It's political correctness gone mad, gone mad.

Ooh I've never heard of the PC Vultures before! I'd better board up the windows in case they try to break in.

Yes, I was helpfully warned about them on Wednesday by a woman in my choir. Apparently they fly around banning Christmas carols. The horrid creatures!

Banning.... WHAT?!
Please do tell me this story.

I'd love to, but unfortunately I was compelled to walk away from the conversation, so I've got no idea! It started with people getting all up in arms about someone apparently having changed the line 'goodwill to all men', and went on to some carol that had supposedly been banned for 'not being PC'. And then I thought, 'right. not getting into this!'

Kind of wish I'd pursued it now though. I mean, banned where? By whom? the carol police?

A google search finds stories about Christmas carols being banned as "noise pollution", those stories including mention of the phrase "PC", and I say, hooray to that! Because they are. Noise pollution, that is.

Indeed there is! I think it should be Barack Obama.
