i second this comment. despite the fact that you've said your union hasn't been helpful, i'd definitely be contacting them about this. i can't see how it's acceptable.

Yep, NUJ. The union reaction been an absolute shambles throughout this whole process, really. Long story... Thanks, though. :) I'm fairly confident I may get out of this now without either of us completely losing our jobs - fingers crossed!
