I nearly had a fit in t'reference library. I read the words 'fly glasses' and scrolled up to the picture, and that's when it happened: fit alert.
From then on, I was lost, really.
Who is this Neil guy, anyway?
I just adore this!!!!!! *screams*
This is funny and such a tight pov, such delicious, rivetting interior ramblings, the slightly unhinged sensation of being alone in a foreign country (I was in Rome in February!), the self-consciousness about clothes (is it a suit kind of day? I just screamed at that -- inwardly, of course, as is very respectable in t'ref.lib.). And Dom/Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!! My glee knows no bounds.
I just love this ruse of introducing Dombilly as unknows. That's what's so rare in fanfic: because we all know the people and they know each other, you can never do that origfic thing of strangers sizing each other up (actually, I've read a handful of fics that use various strategies but this one takes the cake).
And the dialogue at the end! Perfection!!
And, yay yippee yay, liberate your inner beta!
I remember my first non-betaed fic. But inspired by
Ack, will I have to become some sort of Neil-whoever-he-is fan now??

yes. for a brief and glorious period of time he was the king of arch english pop. ;)
love,
n.x :)

Neil is they guy on her icon.
He can also be found here: http://www.thedivinecomedy.com/framephoto.htm
He is, basically, The Divine Comedy. He kinda sounds like Scott Walker. And he looks very good in a suit.
::grin::

i've just remembered that he's irish, isn't he? but his pop sensibilities were definitely english, *lol*.

Ok The Divine Comedy are a band. Except it's basically Neil Hannon, and usually a composer called Joby Talbot, his brother Ivor Talbot, and a loose collection of other people who come and go. As I said, it's all very Scott Walkery. I could send you a tape of a few songs if you wanted?
or if you have a decent web connection and access to file sharing I recomend downloading some of the following:
Bernice bobs her hair,
europop,
a drinking song,
songs of love, (which was the theme for Father Ted. Neil also wrote My Lovely Horse for the Father Ted goes to Eurovision episode.)
timewatching,
national express,
thrillseeker, (especially for that orli kick you're on at the moment. ;) )
regeneration.
(but seriously, i'm happy to bung a load on a cd or tape or something and bung it your way. :) )

::wants to see him smile::
::throws him a skinny boy who kinda looks like Curt Cobain or Iggy Pop::

Forgot to mention there is a Divine Comedy song called 'Gin Soaked Boy' which also refers to The Fly. Haha. Although I wasn't specifically thinking of this song when I wrote the fic.
And also to recommend

*licks gorgeous feedback* (don't worry, it's just something I like to do...)
the slightly unhinged sensation of being alone in a foreign country (I was in Rome in February!),
Well, and I'm glad that came off ok, as I have never been to Rome! Everything here gleaned from guidebooks or, well, made up. :)
Who is this Neil guy, anyway?
I see this has been answered by others already, but yes - Neil is lead singer and (well, he basically is the band The Divine Comedy. I've loved this band for years and years, because they're funny and romantic and clever and lovely. There is a (rather dull) biography on their website here.
As for their albums, I'd recommend... well, all of them, but 'Promenade' was the one I fell in love with. 'Tonight we Fly' is swoony. There's a 'best of' album too, 'Secret History'.
That picture is quite old, but I just like it. Here's a slightly more recent one, complete with the longer hair that appears in this story:
