Went to see the trailer for the pirate film last night. Er, I mean Charlie's Angels. No, I enjoyed the Angels greatly; they were tres sexy et amusing. It's just... the pirates...

What was I saying? Oh yeah. So, I thought I behaved perfectly normally, but [livejournal.com profile] clara_swift somehow gives me the impression that perhaps I was a little over-enthusiastic about the pirate film trailer. Pirate... film... Pirates...

Yeah. Anyway. Not quite [livejournal.com profile] lobelia321 standard perhaps, but I fear I am on that slippery slope. We shall draw a veil over it. After that we went to the incomparable 'Old Orleans' theme pub handily situated next to the cinema for people still recovering from the combined effects of Pirates and Angels. Pirates... Er. And then [livejournal.com profile] clara_swift and I wittered on about slash till closing time, leaving our hapless companions to chat amongst themselves.

Pirates...

I'm reading The Changeover by Margaret Mahy, which I first read when I was about twelve, hiding in the school library at lunchtime because I hated everyone in the school and they hated me. Which simplified things. Anyway. Let me say, this book knocks Harry Potter into a cocked hat. Read it. Oh, Sorenson Carlisle...

... and Pirates, obviously
Music:: pirates!
Mood:: pirates!

Well, if that's how you are for the trailer...just imagine how you'll be after the film!!

I was with hubby so I had to be on good behavior, but I couldn't help squeeing out occasionally about "OMG sweet puppy eyes!!" and there was an unmistakable shifting about in my chair when Orli arrives in musketeer garb. I believe I had a small coronary...but it's okay, I lived through it.

Eyeliner...pirates...swords...pirates...pirate shirts...accents (well to me, they are..lol..)...pirates...

*dissolves into atmosphere*

Yeah, come to think of it, they never actually said Arrr, did they? Not once. I'm not sure how I feel about that...

no worries; the "arrrr"s were supplied mostly by the main villain.

No, I expect that would take years of dedicated training and more stamina than I have access to at this time.

Oh my God! *swoons*

"Your school uniform's too short, for that matter," he added. "It should come down to your knees when you're sitting down. It's in the handbook."

*faints dead away*

No wonder this book had such an effect on me when I was twelve.

*thinks about futurefic*

So, I'm buying Sneak magazine for the youngest member of my household and the front page is screaming 'Orlando Shows Us His Secret Tattoo!'. Ok, I think, that will interest certain people I know, what can this secret tattoo be........ rummage through said magazine, stopping but briefly to peruse the scrummy Justin poster spesh, in search of tatt news only to reach page 17 and find...... it's that little bit of Elvish on his wrist.Excuse me, but how is that secret???? Doesn't *everybody* in the whole world know about that? Now, I feel cheated!

Feh. That is quite pathetic. Demand your money back! But thanks for the thought.

Well, I'm convinced there was something strange being pumped through the air conditioning in that pub or else that noise we kept hearing was some kind of subliminal Slash plot bunny communicator - you wrote agricultural journalism slash and I wrote this: http://www.livejournal.com/users/clara_swift/13653.html#cutid1

Ah, that could very well be it. Either that or the alcohol.

Yes - he is endearing isn't he?? He's a very close relative of recently deflowered Padawan. And he's not based on my own post-pub behaviour... no, not at all!

Margaret Mahy!!!

I adore Margaret Mahy!!!

Actually, not all of her books. Some are lame. But if I remember rightly, The Changeover is fantastic!!!! Is that the one with the girl and the strange group of strangers, incl. a sexy boy? Or is it the one with the girl and her brother who gets possessed?

I haven't seen a Pirate trailer. I do, however, see Orli plastered onto the side of a bus shelter every morning when driving the children to school. It's a miracle I have not caused an accident yet.

It's the one with the girl and her brother who gets possessed. It's just been reissued in a horrible edition with unpleasant illustrations and apparently un-proofread, but never mind.

I remember absolutely adoring it when I was a teenager, and having reread it I can see why. It's just wonderful and sexy and powerful. And Sorry Carlisle one sexy male witch. I think it's quite possible that I've been in love with him for the last 16 years.

I own two other Margaret Mahy books - 'The Catalogue of the Universe' and 'Memory', both of which I think are great. Don't think I've read any of the others, or if I have, I've forgotten.
