I've got a job interview next week.

omghelp. I don't want one any more. I want to stay at my nice old crappy comfortable job and slide slowly into massive debt as a result.

I can't believe I put the wrong phone number on my application form. Idiot. Well, I doubt they'll want to employ someone who doesn't know their own phone number.

Ok, now I just have to learn QuarkXPress before next week. Anyone got any handy hints?

*continues to act like bunny in headlights*

I may have to go and calm myself by playing Kingdom of Loathing for a while.

Thanks, Arwyn. I played around with it a bit yesterday, and it didn't seem too bad.

I haven't gotten round to looking at the sheet since she gave it to me cos I have so much to do...

Well, I reckon that's probably a good sign. Nice chatting to you today, btw!

Oh! Good luck. I shall keep every digit I possess crossed for you. And Quark is fine, I'm sure you can wing it once you have a play around.

*pets the bunny*

XPress is temperamental, but once you know it, it's great. Feel free to IM me if you want pointers or whatever. shira0204. I "live" in that program for my job so... *smiles*

Thank you, Shira. I did some practice yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised -- didn't seem too bad at all.

*wishes you lots of luck on the interview* I know you'll do great, flash memory loss or not. :)

Thanks! I wish it was over though. Hate interviews.

Quark is just evil.

I never used it that much, but it's basically Pagemaker and InDesign without any of the nice bits.... *coughs*... But I'm sure you'll *love* it!

I realised after writing that comment that I was way too negative towards Quark! I don't like it, but then again some people favourite Macromedia design tools to Adobe ones.

Either way, enjoy learning Quark, and best of luck with the new job! :)

Believe it or not there is one of those "Dummies" books about Quark, if you need a crash course.

I wish you lots of luck - you deserve a kick-ass job!!

Thank you! I think it would be fun to have a kick-ass job, too.

I'd be terrified if it were me - I mean, I've been doing this job for almost 11 years! I started this job in my 20s and after next Feb I'll be doing it in my 40s! But because it's NOT me and because there are so many positives for you I say - go for it!!!

Be not afeared, little Bunny.

Oh maybe this story will make you feel better about the phone number thing: Imagine my horror when, having got ready for a 3 pm interview I looked at the interview letter only to see it had been at 13.00 hours? Who the hell uses the 24 hour clock on interview letters anyway? I phoned them up more embarressed than anything and they were fine about it and re-scheduled.

I didn't get the job, although they offerred me another one - but it was lack of experience not the mistake.

You'll be fine - I know it.

Heheh. That story sends shivers down my spine. Trouble is, I keep imagining the interview and in my imagination I keep going off on long-drawn-out tangents all about the phone number mistake and trying to explain just why it is that I seem to have such a mental block with my own phone number, etc etc. Maybe I ought to be preparing for the actual job-related questions instead.

Change is horribly unnerving. But, new jjob, you know it's the right thing. If you want a hand going through interview stuff give me a yell.

It's scary but quite exciting too. It's been so long since I had an interview I can't remember what happens in them. The bit I hate is at the end when they ask you if you've got any questions and I always forget what I was going say.

Thankee! xx

I've no practical advice since I've been stuck in the same job for twelve years, so... *sends positive vibes*

Ooh, ta for the link. That looks like just the sort of thing I need.

ps. I'm kind of planning on joining you rabid mac people when I've got some money. Of course, the key phrase here is the one involving money, so it'll probably never happen. And your mac-porn-fic has absolutely nothing to do with it. Nothing whatsoever. So there. And anyway, I'm keeping the PC. I'm bi.

that book is the biz. some time ago now i was invited to teach quark classes at a local place of learning. i couldn't let the fact that i didn't actually *know* quark stop me from pocketing £25/h, so i just bought this book and taught meself first. heh!!

rabid? *sniffs* trust me, missy, you won't want to play with that pc ever again once you get a sexy mac. *leers*

n.x :)

I went on an interview a while back, and I was frightened out of my wits... but my roomie helped me prepare by telling me that there are 3 questions every interviewer asks:

1. Why are you leaving your old job?

2. Why are you the best candidate for this job? i.e. what skills do you possess that fit this job

3. I can never remember the third. This is perhaps why I haven't got a new job.

Eeks, had the interview yesterday. It was scary. I did it though. Now I just have to wait. Even more scary! :(
