Have wickedly opened a box of Christmas chocolates...

I should be asleep, what am I doing? Sitting around writing rubbish apparently.

I've been thinking a bit lately, about the way Ian McKellen is sometimes treated as like, the All-Knowing God of Gay Stuff or something. I mean, I like Ian. I respect him. I think he's a good actor and I'm chuffed to bits that an openly gay man gets his picture on McDonalds cups. Not to mention the TWO Ian action figures out there for the purchasing this Christmas. So, yeah - I'm an Ian fan. I like the way he deals with stuff most of the time.

But... there's always another side to things, isn't there? I know there are people who, rather understandably, feel real resentment towards Ian because he came out very late in his career, when he was already established, and then suddenly became Britain's 'leading gay man'. Which put quite a lot of other people, who'd been out a lot longer, and suffered for it, somewhat into the shade.

I don't really have a strong opinion either way on this; as usual, I can sort of see everbody's point; but I think it's interesting that there is this whole history there that's being forgotten, when Ian is described as 'one of the first British men to come out...'
