I'm sorry, i can't type properly on this tiny keyboard. i'm sticking to lower case because trying to negotiate the shift key just prolongs the torture.

anyway, thought you might like to know i've cheered up now, which is nice. sitting at my mum's house, looking after the dinner while she does the christmas morning service. her kitchen is like a barren wasteland. three million types of tea and half a wooden spoon. the garden is full of blue tits, flitting around the feeders hanging on the old eucalyptus. a grey day, the odd patch of snow still here and there. listening to woman's hour.

have a lovely day, everyone. :)

It is now Christmas, so I shall raise glass to you, my friends.

Whether you like it or not!

Happy wotsit thing.

ps. This is not even my wine! It is my mum's! She went to midnight mass and I stole it! Hahahaha!

I tried to take a picture of the cat but she keeps wandering off. :(

I might go to bed now.

In retrospect, I think yesterday went downhill when I put the telly on to wrap my presents in front of... only I didn't wrap any presents, I slouched under a blanket watching Catherine Cookson's A Dinner of Herbs on UKTV History. Thank god my dad phoned to complain at me, or I might have watched Bugsy Malone as well.

This year's Christmas comfort reading is The Children of Green Knowe. It's working a treat. And now when I read it I remember the real house. Here's the website, if you want to go there. You can arrange an appointment, and Lucy Boston's daughter-in-law will give you the guided tour. It's very cool. You can touch the rocking horse omg!

A letter to Neil Gaiman's blog really made me cringe today. ...I told her that I don't have any brothers, just sisters, and that I didn't know the gentleman she had named, and that I was sorry. Ooh. Ouch. Not quite the same thing, obviously, but someone once contacted my cousin, who is a record producer, pretending they were me. It was during his brief period of being mildly well-known, after he worked with Madonna and had a record in the charts. I still have no idea who the person was, or where they got my name, or anything! Weird. Quite fun for me though, heh.

I like stories about really bad Christmasses, they make me feel better. Here's a sad little memoir by Will Self. The last Christmas we had spent in my natal home, two years before, had been distinguished by my brother and I having a stand-up fist fight in the street, smiting one another until we fell into the privet – a small suburban nightmare.

I just went to see Basil Brush in panto! I know, you wish you were me.

It was Aladdin, which, for those who don't know it, is a brave, searingly honest story of the forbidden love between two women in Imperial China. This play also touches on themes of class prejudice, animal rights and transgender issues, and explores the transitory nature of financial gain (with clever nods to the current crisis). The script is often witty, sometimes moving. We gain a rare insight, for example, into the plight of a widowed cross-dressing laundry worker in Old Peking, and at times feel so involved in the drama that we are tempted to call out, to warn the progagonists of their impending doom.

Best performance of the night must surely go to Mr Brush, that much-lauded classical actor of many years standing, who was a revelation as the Emperor of China. The sheer energy he put into his every action was breathtaking, even when he spent most of the night being wheeled across the stage in a laundry basket on wheels, due to his lack of actual legs. Bravo, sir!

The high-speed car chase went on too long, though.

ETA: sorry, accidentally turned on comment-screening! I was worried that the controversial subject matter might drive you all mad.

You'd think it was some kind of international holiday or something.

Oh all right, Merry Crimpleen everyone. That's if you celebrate Crimpleen, and I know I do. Mmm, synthetic fabrics are so delicious.

Well, I'd better go and peel some potatoes, I suppose. May the gods of Crimpleen not come down and smite you, today at least.

This post brought to you by AN ATTEMPT TO STAVE OFF ENSUING MADNESS OMG!

ps. I got TWO whole and glittering Shaun of the Dead fics for Yuletide, so HA! Take that, ensuing madness!

Yes.

Went out for the dancing but there was no dancing to be had. :(

Have no chocolate. It is Christmas. This is wrong.

Have bottle of wine, present from work. Has screw cap. Screw cap is welded on. Cannot open bottle of wine.

Am trying to use BitTorrent, fairly unsuccessfully (have run out of SGA eps). Download has stuck at 3.9%. Do not know why.

Cannot be bothered to move from current position on unmade bed. Need to change sheets.

Have comments to answer but they are on other computer which is switched off. Maybe tomorrow.

Hmm, family Christmas. Hmm. *frown*

Hope you all enjoyed that.

Dear friends list:

1. I have a slight stomach ache, probably due to eating two three-course meals yesterday. I have a driving lesson in about half an hour, and my Christmas shopping isn't quite as finished as I thought it was. I may have the beginnings of a cold, although this is so far inconclusive. I am also feeling kind of ... fat. And my bedroom needs cleaning. Bearing all this in mind, and the fact that I don't really feel like it, should I go out dancing tonight?

2. Do you think I should try salsa dancing in January? I'm not sure it's really me, but my mother once told me I should say yes to everything, and think about it later.

I think I should fast today. Perhaps consume nothing but hot water with lemon.

I was feeling a bit sad about not being involved in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year. But as deadline loomed and my friends list grew more hysterical, I realised: hey - I get to read all the stories and not have to tear any of my hair out!

The radio is on and I can't hear what I'm typing in my head, so if it doesn't make sense, that's why.

Well hey there, it's ... me. Yes, it is.

I keep wanting to write things in here. And then... I don't. So now... I am. But I haven't thought of anything to say yet. See. Yeah.

So here are some things I haven't thought about:

Christmas. I, well to be honest I haven't really put much effort into it this year. I can't really be arsed. Love you all and everything, but yeah.

I don't have to go to work tomorrow! That is so cool I could eat my own hand.

I don't know how anyone expects me to drive an actual car without someone sitting next to me telling me what to do. As long as I can have a permanent instructor, I'll be fine.

Work Christmas meal today. God it was dull. But the mushroom bruschetta was nice. I'm sure I spelt that wrong.

[WARNING: UPCOMING SGA REFERENCE, PLEASE SCROLL ON IF NOT INTERESTED]
Today at work I inadvertantly turned into Rodney McKay whilst doing Last Minute Panic Website Updating. I was saying stuf like, "Look, just open it up and resize it and save it as -- no, no wait -- never mind, I'll do it myself!" It's not as fun when it's not on the telly.

Ummmm...

I am reading John Masefield's The Box of Delights, because it's Christmas, and that way I can get the Christmassy glow without having to do anything strenuous like bake mince pies.

I see some people have done posts where they talk about everything they've written this year. Heh. *hollow laughter*

This is just boring. I shall stop here.
