I have absolutely no idea! We were sitting on the other side of the bench having our lunch, they were just stood there leaning on their tank, talking really self-consciously about Iraq as if they knew where it was.

Stones with holes in. People used to hang them over stable doors to ward off bad luck. I found these on Dungeness beach last weekend. :)

How'd they end up on the beach? People threw them out when they decided they didn't work? How can there be so many of them lying about now? That's quite a number of them for a single weekend's collecting.

The holes are natural, made by t'sea. On reflection, my explanation may have been slightly misleading...

Don't the witches want their stones back?

Your desk looks like fun.

It's not that fun. :(

Well done you! :)

And I found out who put the pineapples up. It was Edmund Withypoll, son of Paul Withypoll, successful London merchant, art patron and member of parliament. He bought the land, previously the site of an Augustinian priory, in 15-humphety-hum, after it was seized by the crown following the dissolution of the monasteries.

People who visited the mansion after it was built included Liz 1, Charles 2 (who did bowling), Albert (Prince), and some farm animals. None of their opinions on pineapples are known.

Ah, but the pineapple was the consummate symbol of hospitality among the upwardly mobile, so there you have it. Totally fits!

Heh, and I thought I was the only one who saw tanks randomly around town.

Also: good effort, getting a photo of those tight young soldiers from behind. The ones here aren't nearly as nice...

Ikea sheets! :-)

I pick up witches' stones, too. They all end up in the garden.

I think I should do this meme. Right after the one I'm doing at the moment.
