What was that tank doing outside BHS?????

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I have absolutely no idea! We were sitting on the other side of the bench having our lunch, they were just stood there leaning on their tank, talking really self-consciously about Iraq as if they knew where it was.

witches stones! what are those?

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Stones with holes in. People used to hang them over stable doors to ward off bad luck. I found these on Dungeness beach last weekend. :)

Don't the witches want their stones back?

Your desk looks like fun.

LOLOLOLOL :D

[identity profile] blythely.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I REALLY want to go!

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
mmmmbed.

[identity profile] tevere.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, and I thought I was the only one who saw tanks randomly around town.

Also: good effort, getting a photo of those tight young soldiers from behind. The ones here aren't nearly as nice...

Ikea sheets! :-)

I pick up witches' stones, too. They all end up in the garden.

I think I should do this meme. Right after the one I'm doing at the moment.

How'd they end up on the beach? People threw them out when they decided they didn't work? How can there be so many of them lying about now? That's quite a number of them for a single weekend's collecting.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The holes are natural, made by t'sea. On reflection, my explanation may have been slightly misleading...

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that fun. :(

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My thoughts precisely.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, total fluke getting those bums! :D

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel another Ikea trip looming...

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Blythely made me walk 6 miles today! my feet hurt! but we saw the thames barrier, so that was cool.

[identity profile] sheldrake.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well done you! :)

And I found out who put the pineapples up. It was Edmund Withypoll, son of Paul Withypoll, successful London merchant, art patron and member of parliament. He bought the land, previously the site of an Augustinian priory, in 15-humphety-hum, after it was seized by the crown following the dissolution of the monasteries.

People who visited the mansion after it was built included Liz 1, Charles 2 (who did bowling), Albert (Prince), and some farm animals. None of their opinions on pineapples are known.

[identity profile] circe-tigana.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but the pineapple was the consummate symbol of hospitality among the upwardly mobile, so there you have it. Totally fits!
