I am going to try and replace chocolate with knitting.

I am also, one day, going to write a proper post with interesting information about ME in it. Like, me and my four day week and my hopefully moving house and all that sort of thing. One day.

I'm really tired this evening. Can't be bothered sentences.

Anyway. Reason recent reticence. Tired of own ranting and angry talking sad things. Gone to ground. Buried head in sand. Pulled wool over own eyes. Went back under bedclothes.

Try for positive! Unexplained recent positive:

Radio: John le Carré, Attenboroughs.
Books. Brave Roman boys on noble quest.
Tickets for Russells.
Singing.
Battlestar G.
Beer festival. Mmm, chocolate orange beer. Friendly folky beardy men.
Friend's beautiful wedding, idyllic sunshine, butterflies etc. Friendly folky beardy men.
Chilli on plate.
Chilli on plant.
Sharing lolcat love.
Knitting Seaman's Cap.
Tomorrow: Keyboard buying for musical playing.

I still heart Ray Kowalski.

Working
Sleeping
Eating too much
Drinking gin and tonic
Trying not to think about work
Washing up
Thinking about work
Working
Staring
Watching the tennis
Walking to work
Knitting
Reading books
Sitting down
Worrying about work
Feeling ever so slightly ill all the time, like I've just recovered from flu or something
Watching Doctor Who
Walking home from work
Trying to persuade myself to get off the sofa and go to bed
Walking around in a daze, sometimes going in and out of shops randomly
Nothing else

So, I did the LJ strike, did you notice? It was partly just to see how staying away from LJ for 24 hours would affect my astounding lack of productivity. Turns out... not so much. I just hung out on the rest of the internets instead.

Then I tried to buy tickets to see Simon Amstell, but it's already sold out, which is sad. :(

I have done some knitting, though.

Dont you wish I'd stayed away longer?

ETA: Also listened to Tariq Ali on Desert Island Discs. Also watched the Paul O'Grady Show!? Life without LJ... it's weird.

It occurs to me that I might need to change the way I organise my life. Organising it, for example, might be a start.

Things I am currently achieving: Getting out of bed. Reading flist. Going to work and staying at my desk, awake, till 5pm, attempting to fit lunch in there at some point. Getting home again. Feeding myself. Occasionally getting to bed before midnight.

Other activities include signing up to things, starting things, buying things which I sometimes get around to taking out of the packaging. I constantly have 50 tabs open in Firefox, all of which are to be 'taken care of' at some mythical later date. I used to make endless lists, but now I can't even seem to find the time to do that. Then there's this BookMooch thing. I have requested eight books to be sent to me. Why, exactly? Why? From here, I can see at least four books I'm 'reading'. I've been 'reading' the same half a dozen books for months on end. Let's not even talk about the 'to read' pile! In return for the books I apparently felt need to be to added to this pile, I tonight wrapped up six of my own books to send to people I don't know in different parts of the world, and then realised I'd forgotten to write the return address on them and furthermore had written the recipient's address in such huge writing there was no room left for all the other things that you have to stick on parcels. So I just sat and stared at them for a while and then put them carefully in a pile and went on Ravelry, where I stared at other people's yarn I will never buy and other people's patterns I will never knit. Now it is 11.43, and I should be asleep, but I'm not, I'm typing this. What an evening I've had!

NaNo starts tomorrow. Since I started my new (and, yes, much better) job I haven't written more than about, ooh, a paragraph. Staring vacantly at half a television programme and eating half a large bar of Cadbury's Wholenut takes up all my energy. In fact, I seem to do lots of half things (or perhaps more accurately quarters and thirds) and it all adds up to a whole lot o' nothing.

Folks... I just can't help feeling I'm not existing at the highest possible level here.

Ok, I'm cold and it's not even November. Storage heaters, please to be storing more heat! *uses laptop as lap-heater*

Could someone tell me how to get or make curtains for arched windows? All the wind is coming through the gaps.

If you can't help me with that, could you recommend me a good Photoshop book?

I'm trying to do intarsia but it's going quite badly so far.

People next door didn't steal my parcel after all. Hooray for them!

I am watching Bleak House. Is good.

It occurred to me some time back that I do not actually have enough yarn to complete the thing what I am knitting. And yet I continue to knit said thing. Why?

Toilet tank continues to overflow and drip down the outside of the building, meaning that the people in the flats below open their bathroom windows at their own risk. Landlord has still not phoned back, and I do not wish to interfere with the ballcock any more than I already have, thank you very much.

Most importantly, I HAVE A NEW DICTIONARY! It is beautiful and shiny. :)

Wow, recyclable milk bottles, what a new and exciting idea. /sarcasm

Also, I seem to have found a channel that shows nothing but the Doctor Who trailer for the rest of the series, over and over again. That must mean it's bedtime.

[livejournal.com profile] curiousworld, I'm finally knitting you your hat. Just in time for summer.

ps. don't none of you be Scientologists.

Well, after whining that I had nothing to say yesterday, today I've got lots!

1. No breakfast again.

2. I am quite annoyed. Semagic refuses to work on this computer. No matter how many times I uninstall/reinstall/re-download etc, it WILL NOT WORK. So I'm posting this from LJ itself, which feels all weird and I don't like it.

3. One of the things I need to do is focus and stop faffing around constantly. The other day I thought I'd like to decide on something to knit, so I got all my stash out and spent an entire evening picking up balls of yarn and going, 'This is a ball of wool. It is blue.' And then I put them all away again.

4. The retired editor of the magazine I work for writes a column of confused ramblings and rantings for us every month. He likes to stick a joke at the end, under the heading 'And finally...' Many of the jokes are at the expense of John Prescott, with whom retired-Ed. is apparently slightly obsessed. I took one and rewrote it to see whether it could be made funny, or failing that, just odd.

The original joke )
