Well, not really a big old rant. I just wanted to have a go at explaining why the forthcoming film of The Dark is Rising makes me boil with incoherent rage. First, imagine a book you really care about. Then imagine they're talking about the movie adaptation of that book in the following quotes:

Trying to do my DiR Christmas fic, but is slooooow. May end up being an after-Christmas fic, which ought to work all right.

They did not make us play games at our work Christmas dinner, I am pleased to report. They just put packs of party poppers and modelling balloons on the tables, so the forced jollity was at least bearable. At least I appeared to be at the non-racist end of the table this year. Posh-ish country hotel, food average to good. Ish. We had crackers, too. In mine, I got the usual weak joke, plus something the Yorkshire Ripper said at his trial. S got a small false Hitler-style moustache. How seasonal. I mean ... wtf?

Slept too long this morning, and my head felt like the inside of a tube of glue. Wrapped all my Christmas presents. I was somehow under the illusion that I quite enjoyed present-wrapping. This turns out not to be the case.

But have been having more fun with 882 Ways to Appease the Heathen Gods. I've written two PotC/Samuel Pepys (don't look at me like that) and one PotC/The Dark is Rising. Only one of them is a drabble though, as I callously did away with the concept of the word limit after gold piece number one. For anyone who's remotely interested, my contributions appear to be on pages 5, 10 and 12. But they're probably not worth looking for, to be honest.

My, you've all been very talkative.

Um, I didn't realise there was a premiere or anything. I was downstairs reading a book. I'm not very good at being a fan, I'm afraid. The other day I stood in front of Empire magazine in WH Smith's, and then I walked away without buying it.

I'm rather glad I'm not doing Secret Slasha. I'm writing my post-war gender-weirdness AU instead. I do want to do the DIR Christmas Challenge, but all my ideas, so far, have come to nothing. Humph.

I made some DIR icons during a slow day at work, and was very pleased with myself because I managed to find Will, Bran, Arthur and the Black Rider in a photo of some people at one of those save the countryside marches in London. No Merriman sadly. I'm not sure I actually like them now though, so they'll probably languish on my hard drive for ever.

My monitor has introduced a strange red cast to proceedings, which makes everything rather difficult.

Oh well. As you were.

I have started watching EastEnders again. Curse you, Alfie Moon; you and your cheeky, lovable Cockney ways! *shakes fist* Ok, hjartad, I eat my words.

In other news, I seem to be spending most of my time lately wishing I could wake up properly, and/or go back to sleep. When I'm not doing this, I'm battling unsuccessfully with my newfound addiction to troika slash. Ahhh, cute little murdering super-villains!
