sofa addendem - anyone for springslash?

I am a sofa-owner!* It was not a cheap sofa. I suppose I can no long deny that I am sort of grown up. Incidentally, I always feel a bit weird saying the word 'sofa' because I grew up with a 'settee'. Somewhere along the line I switched. Like, we never said 'toilet' in our house either, we said 'lavatory'. Just thought you'd like to know.

***

In more important news, I'm fully convinced that now Bill Oddie has apparently left Springwatch, it is poised to become the biggest RPF fandom since Lotrips. Come on, people! Chris Packham was the sexy face of children's wildlife programming back in the 80s!

***

Apologies to people not in Britain -- there appears to have been little for you in this post.

*well, provisionally.

Stephen Fry's latest on Twitter, re: the other night's Jonathan Ross show:

On the show @wossy read me some Fry/Laurie slash fiction. Did it make the cut? Absolutely eye watering. And I thought I had seen it all

Dear flist and world

I want you all to know that I've just written 2,600 words of Christopher Biggins slash. And I'm afraid I will be posting it. If you'd like to simply unfriend me now, I'll certainly understand.

Thank you for your time. :)

Time wastage

Apparently the Radio Times is a shipping magazine. As in, a magazine that ships, not a magazine about ships. Take these examples:

Wednesday: Property -- Location, Location, Location (8:00pm, C4) -- This week [Kirstie and Phil] play dipping their biscuits into each other's thermos cups. "No! I don't want those floaty bits in my coffee!" Kirsty wails [...] but we know she's just playing hard to get. "You are impossible!" he twinkles at her later. Flirtation, Flirtation, Flirtation, it should be called.

Thursday: Drama of the Week -- House (9:00pm, Five) -- [...] But, delightfully, it's never completely clear whether [House] is jealous of Wilson... or Cuddy. The writing is so subtle, it's impossible to tell -- maybe it's really Wilson he loves.

I rest my case.

Yeah, can you tell I'm off work this week?

Wibble

This thing wot I am downloading is taking too long. :(

Anyway. I've been watching Season 1 Buffy this evening and thinking about Doctor Who (yes, this is pretty much how my life goes on a day-to-day basis) and I suddenly thought, it occurs to me that pretty much everything I might think of to say about Doctor Who from now on will be something of a spoiler ) And then I thought, no. That would be both ridiculous and unpleasant.

I was going to say something else at this point, but I forget what. I shall go to bed.

Blimey. I never realised Robert Louis Stevenson was so slashy!

Also: Samuel Johnson had Tourette's? Huh. You learn something new etc etc.

AHAHAHAHAHA!!

Just trawling randomly and came upon this community: Ipswich: The Darker Side of Doctor Who

Ipswich is the alternative. Ipswich is the community and repository for all things angsty, dark, and non-fluff in the Doctor Who fandom.

Not to mention: Ipswich may contain explicit sexual content, slash, violence, and disturbing imagery. Blimey, I should say so!

:)

And now I must go to bed.

So...

I have posted people's MS Paint interest pics. Please look after them, they'll be worth money one day.

Particularly as I've been nominated for a fic award! Yes! For that Narnia story I wrote for Yuletide 2004. But because I'm a terrible modest person, I'm not telling you what awards it be, nor where they is. Ha! I'm not having people voting for me, that'd spoil everthing.

Ooh. And I bought Attitude magazine, and there's an interesting article on slash. And [livejournal.com profile] dolores and [livejournal.com profile] megolas and [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope are in it! Cool, eh?

I actually pumped my bike tyres up today. This is a major achievement!

I have nothing else to say just at the moment.

Wha?

Did LiveJournal go away for a while? That was a bit scary. *twitch*

So. Saturday! Yes. I just signed a petition, and I know that online petitions are, by and large, about as much use as a wet rag in a gale, but this is for a very important cause. It's to get A Bit of Fry and Laurie released on DVD. You can sign it here, although it doesn't seem to like Firefox much.

[livejournal.com profile] dandywalker is evil. He made me eat a cheeseburger last night, when I wasn't even hungry. He forced me to. It was terrible.

I've been looking at old sketchbooks and things this morning, and frankly, I'm not terribly impressed. I was trying to make myself feel better because my drawing skills have deteriorated so much, but a) I fear they weren't that good anyway, and b) I'm apparently too lazy to document and archive my work properly, so I don't seem to have very much left. Which is kind of sad. I sort of have an idea of something I'd like to do, but I don't know if my skillz are really up to it. Whatever I do, I know it won't live up to my wild and tingly imaginings, but I should probably try anyway. Just cos, you know.

Ok, we appear to have ventured into extreme rambling territory now.

Other stuff includes the following:

I have been developing some mildish new obsessions, mainly in order to combat the extreme sense of boredom and frustration engendered in me by Ordinary Working Life, and Getting on Buses, and Buying Sandwiches Every Day and Stuff. Firstly, I have been hanging round eBay and Amazon like it's the end of the internet tomorrow. I probably should stop doing this, but I just really like spending money on shiny things.

Secondly, and in reverse order, I have been swallowed up, masticated thoroughly, and chomped into tiny, tiny bits, by Stargate: Atlantis. By which, of course, I mean the fandom rather than the show itself. Because the fic, my friends, is bloody great. And this leads to all sorts of inarticulate musings about fannishness and fic and so on, because I'm always doing this the wrong way round. It was the same with the X-Files. See, I'm basically in it for the slash, and then that makes me want to see the show to find out what they look like, and where this reference came from, and so on and so on, and omg, they really do do that - I thought Anon McFicwriter made that up! And I do end up enjoying watching the show, because of the fic, and my watching of the show enhances my fic-reading. One feeds the other. But I almost certainly wouldn't bother watching SG:A if no one was writing great fic about it. Hmm. Anyway, I should do some recs or something.

Ah, but now I must contradict myself, because thirdly, I have been displaying some disturbingly fannish tendencies. I have suddenly discovered Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. Yes, when it comes to being late to the party, I like to arrive when there's nothing left but beer cans full of fag-butts and a few suspicious stains. Hm. But anyway, um, yes, perhaps I need to feed the inner goth I never knew I had. Because, oh, Dream! He's just so ... broody and annoying and cool. Sigh. I'm up to World's End, and my favourite so far is Brief Lives, which I found oddly moving. I like the guy who's lived for fifteen thousand years, and then gets killed when a wall falls on him on his way to work. And he says to Death, "Fifteen thousand years. I did ok, didn't I?" And she says, "You got what everyone gets. A lifetime." Er. And, anyway, while there is much more to say, I think I feel like stopping writing now.

Ok! Stupid rambly post over! Yay!

sheldrake attempts a proper post

Some things I didn't know about myself )

Oh my god, why do I have to be so tired? WHY? Surely it can't be necessary.

Things I have liked:

[livejournal.com profile] megolas found this video which Whistler might have called Study in Black and Red with Boys Kissing but which is actually called Emo kids making out for a bet omgyay!!!1

[livejournal.com profile] badgermonkey done it again, she did, with Is this the way to Magrathea?, which is her sequel to Now There's a Frood Who Knows Where His Towel Is (the marvellous Doctor Who/Hitchhiker's crossover). This stuff is truly scrumtrulescent. It is a delight. ps. I'm passing on her plea to find out if anyone else would be interested in writing DW/HH fic or joining a community for same? Well? Come on now, speak up!

I done wrong again

[livejournal.com profile] sminky and [livejournal.com profile] sophrosyne31 have probably forgotten now, but they tagged my for that film meme no one's doing any more. I've forgotten all the questions now except the one about how many DVD'd or videos you own. My answer is: very few. See, I live with [livejournal.com profile] dandywalker and [livejournal.com profile] galactic_jack -- it's a bit like living inside a massive film library. I don't really feel I need to own any myself. Errmm ... and so I refer all other questions to them.

I did want to say some stuff about going to seel house at Green Knowe, which is real omg! and has all the things in the books in it omg! and possibly knitting and books I've read and things, but frankly all I want to do is go to bed and eat kettle chips. Maybe I should post some never-to-be-finished fic, just to make my ego feel better.

This is quite a misleading post. I am currently sickeningly cheerful about 99.9% of the time.

Etc

Frankly, I don't think you can ever rec something too much, so here I am reccing Recall by [livejournal.com profile] sophrosyne31. Very absorbing, fascinating Lotrips AU, not to mention sexier than sex on sexy toast. I'd recommend it even if you don't read Lotrips, actually.

I had the best idea for my Yuletide story last night. I lay awake for hours thinking it through and fizzing with delight at how wonderful it was going to be and how clever I am, although I couldn't be bothered to put the light on and write any of it down. When I woke up, of course, it turned out to be a fairly mediocre idea after all, which was rather disappointing. But I should be able to drag some sort of fic out of it, with luck and a good kick up the arse.

Here's a disturbing thought I had the other night: Rupert Bear slash. Anyone? No? Ok.

Not nearly enough abuse, I'm afraid, so I'm forced to post some Madonna Ent fic. First posted as a comment in [livejournal.com profile] lobelia321's LJ, as she was strange enough to request it, but she pointed out that it was behind a cut. So here it is again. It's just a snippet, so you can consider it a warning. There's plenty more where this came from.

Madonna checked her email again. Nothing. She sipped her Evian and stared out of the window. Outside, the bland Californian sun beat down, slowly frying the garden to a crisp.

There seemed to be something stuck in her eye.

Bitches.

Why wouldn't Ents call each other 'Babe', anyway?

A tinhat moment
In these pictures of them recording the weird album, Elijah is quite clearly wearing a Skeletor mask. Well. This is obviously a sekrit gay message! Everybody knows that Skeletor was as gay as a particularly gay goose from the Land of Gay Geese. I'm quite surprised no one picked this up, actually.

My novel
is kind of dead. This afternoon I'll have a go at resurrecting it.

In other news, basically nothing. When the New Year rolls around, I plan on giving up paranoia.

Nothing

Anyone looking for a subject for an essay or something? Well, I was just thinking, cos I'm reading this book by Neil Miller called Out of the Past -- Gay and Lesbian History from 1869 to the Present, and I think it would be interesting if someone did a study on the nature of female friendship and female environments, and drawing parallels between, say, friendships between upper middle class independent women in 19th century America & the 19th century women's college environment, and women writing in 21st century slash fandom. Because I'd quite like to read that.

What? What novel? 7,605, ok? I wrote three words today.

GIP but not really

Looky! [livejournal.com profile] blythely made me an icon!! Actually she made me two, but LJ is buggering about and won't let me upload it. But yay anyway!

Anyway so I've signed up for the evil nano thing. It was too easy. They need to have a big sign before you click on 'submit', going 'are you sure - yes or no?' and if you click yes it would go 'but really, are you?'

See how mad I am -- I had to type an article about aphids today. And in my lunch hour I downloaded it to a floppy and stole it specifically so that I can write badfic based upon it. *hits stupid brain*

And then I got very bored slavishly keying in stuff about pig pregnancies, so I wrote slash instead. Ooh, I'm so dangerous!

I've stopped hacking LJ to bits now, so you can all have your weapons back. [livejournal.com profile] shirecreature -- your uzi, I believe. And [livejournal.com profile] lazulus -- thanks for lending me the flamethrower. The hammer was mine, wasn't it? Ok, good.
